AAEQ MANUFACTURERS AND RECYCLERS PARTICIPATES IN THIRD ANNUAL LAWN MOWER EXCHANGE PROGRAM (LMEP)
Las Vegas metal recycling company helps support clean air in Clark County

(Las Vegas-NV) - AAEQ Manufacturers and Recyclers, one of Nevada's leading scrap metal recycling companies, is serving as the recycling center for Clark County residents who want to exchange their gas lawn mower for a new zero-emission, cordless electric model at a greatly reduced price. This is the third consecutive year AAEQ has partnered with the Clark County Department of Air Quality & Environmental Management (DAQEM) to support the department's Lawn Mower Exchange Program (LMEP).
This year's LMEP begins on Saturday, May 8th in conjunction with Clean Air Month 2010. After completing an application/voucher from the DAQEM, residents can take their old mowers to AAEQ for recycling. AAEQ will provide residents with a recycling verification code for obtaining a new electric mower. Under the LMEP, new electric mowers manufactured by Neuton® (CE 5.3 battery-powered), valued at $400, are being sold to residents directly from the manufacturer for only $99. The program has been extremely successful with over 2,500 mowers turned in for recycling during the past two years. Go to www.aaeq.net/lawnmowerexchange for complete details.
Scott Stolberg, president and CEO of AAEQ Manufacturers and Recyclers, says the company is proud to once again participate in the program.

"Since gas lawn mowers are major contributors to air pollution," said Stolberg, "the Clark County DAQEM program is one of the most effective ways to help improve air quality in our area. We are pleased to once again serve as the recycling point for this program.”

Rules require that only one lawn mower can be exchanged per household. Gas-powered lawn mowers taken to AAEQ, located at 2580 N. Commerce St. in North Las Vegas, will be destroyed and recycled for their scrap metal value. To participate in the LMEP, you must be a resident of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City or unincorporated Clark County within the Las Vegas Valley. This year 600 electric mowers will be available at the reduced price.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), one gas-powered lawn mower used for one year can pollute the air as much as 40 new or late-model cars driven over the same period.  The electric mower produces no emissions and is equipped with a mulching blade that will reduce the amount of material taken to landfills.

The 2009-2010 LMEP was funded by grants received from the Emissions Control Division of the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and a donation from NV Energy.  For more information contact the DAQEM at (702) 455-2949, or visit www.accessclarkcounty.com.
